The Pliska Rosette
In 1961, a seven-ray bronze medallion was found in the Old Bulgarian capital Pliska. The artifact is well known as the Pliska Rosette. It is dated between 8th - 9th century’s A.D. and was most likely a tool for astronomical computations. According to researchers, the seven rays of the Rosette possibly stand for the seven main stars known by the ancients: the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. In the middle of the backside, a runic symbol that appears to be a combination of the symbols I, Y and I, has been engraved. It’s the symbol of the ancient Bulgarian God, the God-Sun, as well as a sign of ancient Bulgarian rulers clan Dulo and thus is known as symbol of the kanasjuvigies who established Old Great Bulgaria, the present and Bulgaria-upon-Volga kingdoms. This rare find is one of the most famous from The ancient Bulgarian period and along with the ancient Bulgarian calendar is brilliant evidence for rich astronomical achievements of our ancestors. At present, the IYI symbol has been used as an emblem of Bulgarian National Alliance – BNS.
